Oats – Shining a Light on a Humble Superfood

Oats – Shining a Light on a Humble Superfood

Did you know that the humble oats you use to make your morning porridge are actually a superfood?

Oats are a grain that do not lose their outer bran or germ in the process, so you get all of that whole-grain goodness regardless of how they are milled.

The fibre found in oats is known as beta-glucan and it contributes to the reduction of unhealthy cholesterol around the body.

The fibre found in oats is known as beta-glucan and it contributes to the reduction of unhealthy cholesterol around the body. Oats contain powerful antioxidant compounds known as “avenanthramides” which help to reduce inflammation & promote cardiovascular and digestive system health.

Beta-glucan is also a slow releasing source of fibre so it helps to stabilise your blood sugar whilst also boosting endurance when ingested a few hours before a workout.

Consuming oats in your daily routine has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and other inflammatory diseases such as  colon & breast cancer.

Colloidal oatmeal (finely ground oats) has long been used to help treat dry and itchy skin. It may help relieve symptoms of various skin conditions, including eczema when used in a regular skincare regime such as in cleansing balm or exfoliator!
